I am a young executive working in a tech company that focuses on built environment industry, so technology naturally plays a big role in my life. From my work routine to my personal errands, digital apps are my go-to tools to stay organised and productive. I would love to share some of the common apps I use and why they are such lifesavers. Maybe you’ll relate to my choices, or even find one or two new apps to try out!

My Work Companions

At work, Microsoft Teams, Notion, and Outlook are my essentials.

  • Microsoft Teams: This app is more than just a chat tool. It lets me share and edit files in real time with my team, make video calls, and even set reminders for myself and my colleagues to avoid missing deadlines. It is like having an all-in-one office space on my screen!
  • Notion: As someone who can get easily distracted at times, Notion keeps me grounded. I use it to record my daily tasks, track progress, and plan ahead. It helps me focus on priorities and meet deadlines without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Outlook: Apart from managing emails, I use its calendar feature to schedule meetings and block focus time to complete my own tasks. It’s my go-to for arranging my workday effectively.

My Personal Companions

Outside of work, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Grab, and Apple’s built-in apps like Calendar and Notes make life easier and more fun.

  • Touch ‘n Go eWallet: This is my trusty payment app for any transactions. I love collecting points and redeeming vouchers. It is a simple way to save money while enjoying the things I like. The app gives me monthly expense insights, which help me stay on top of my budget.
  • Grab: Whether it’s ordering snacks, a quick dinner, or getting around in big cities, Grab is like my digital shopping mall. When I visit cities where driving isn’t convenient, I rely on Grab’s e-hailing service. Even for work, we often prefer e-hailing, especially in busy cities where traffic and parking can be a hassle.
  • Apple Calendar & Notes: Apple Calendar helps keep track of my personal life—friend meetups, Pilates sessions, or buying groceries. Notes, on the other hand, is my lifesaver for listing down to-do lists and groceries. Living alone as a young executive can get overwhelming, but having everything written down helps me stay on top of chores and errands.

In this modern era, I believe digital apps have become essential to how we manage work and life. They help us stay organised, track expenses, and manage day-to-day tasks. But as much as we depend on technology, it is worth remembering this thought from Steve Jobs:

Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have faith in people, that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.

Apps can be powerful tools when we use them wisely. Whether for work or personal life, there is a world of digital tools waiting to make your life easier—so why not explore and see what works for you?
